Kai Kaarniranta is professor in Institute of Clinical Medicine – Ophthalmology University of Eastern Finland and chief physician in Department of Ophthalmology Kuopio University Hospital. Prof. Kaarniranta received his Ph.D. degree in 2002 on heat shock gene 70 regulation. He has a strong expertise in age-related macular degeneration (AMD). Current research is focused on AMD pathogenesis and its prevention.
