Applying for a Grant

The Instrumentarium Science Foundation supports research in medicine, medical technology, and related scientific and economic fields. The Foundation may also fund other high-level basic research in medical, scientific, and technological areas that align with its mission.

The Foundation’s primary activity is awarding annual personal grants to doctoral candidates, postdoctoral researchers, and research groups.

  • Doctoral dissertation grants are aimed at supporting PhD candidates conducting research in Finland.
  • Postdoctoral grants are intended for researchers who have recently completed their PhD, supporting career development by enabling research abroad for up to two years.
  • The Instrufoundation Fellow Grant is awarded to an independent researcher recently returned to Finland, either to establish a new research group or to strengthen an existing one. The grant supports one year of research conducted in Finland.
  • The Silmu Grant supports researcher-innovators and science entrepreneurs carrying out innovative projects that promote new business opportunities.

Each May, the Foundation’s Board determines the target research areas and the schedule for announcements and applications.

Grant calls are published on the Foundation’s website and at tiedejatutkimus.fi, and awarded grants are announced on the Foundation’s website.
